'BBC Newsnight and French national TV news release of Jean-Paul Kauffman leading political journalist French TV
On 22 May 1985, Michel Seurat and Jean-Paul Kauffman were kidnapped by members of the Islamic Jihad in Lebanon. JPK was the first hostage to be released he had
suffered two years of the most appalling conditions and torture including
mock executions. He had seen a close friend die from untreated diabetes. His
release was almost a national holiday in France where wine producers had
been putting into store a bottle of his favourite wine for every day he was
in captivity.' |
